Job Description
Our client, a “NYS agency focused on legal matters”, is looking for a Legal Assistant.



Responsibilities


• Assist AAG's and Bureau staff in drafting/preparation of legal documents for state and federal litigation (e.g., legal research, formatting review and/or drafting of pleadings, discovery demands, motions, memorandum, affidavits, privilege logs, and inserting table of authorities into briefs, etc.), general correspondence and forms. Requires proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Handle hard copy filing (via mail) and electronic filing (via NYSCEF and CM/ECF) of litigation papers and search for case information through PACER. Requires knowledge of where to find relevant federal and state court rules.
• Coordinate process service through contracted service companies or in-house service by mail or at the Department of State’s office.
• Organize and manage litigation documents, including appendices, agency administrative records, discovery and FOIL responses.
• Use Concordance, Relativity, Adobe Acrobat 2017, Microsoft SharePoint and/or OneDrive or other electronic and hard copy document management software.
• Interface with and be the point of contact for electronic discovery coordination in EPB, working closely with the Practice Technologies Group (a division within the Information Technology Bureau).
• Read and evaluate agency referrals and legal pleadings, coordinate with client agencies and provide strategic options and responses to AAGs.
• Responsible for oversight of FOIL requests for the bureau, case data management (using NYMatters), and research as needed.
• Assist with the coordination of office workflow, staffing and system training with Bureau management, and various investigative functions such as corporation searches and judgment collection work.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
